Sear David - Greek Imperial Coins and their values, The Local Coinage of the Roman Empire, London 1982, ISBN 0900652594
636 pages, hardcover binding with wrapper, richly illustrated catalog of Greek coins, with a quote next to each item. The catalog provides a comprehensive and authoritative guide devoted specifically to the local coins of the Roman Empire, an undoubtedly neglected series in all of ancient classical numismatics. The Greek imperial coins featured date back more than three centuries, from Augustus to Diocletian, and were issued at more than six hundred mints from Spain to Mesopotamia. The catalog is divided into three parts. In the first - coins with images of emperors, chronologically cataloged, reign by reign. This arrangement helps with identification and emphasizes the importance of the local issue as a complement to the coins of the Roman state covering the entire Empire. Within each reign, the issues are arranged in their traditional geographical order. The second presents quasi-autonomous coins (without the names and portraits of emperors), whose issues are also arranged in geographical order. The third part of the catalog lists contemporary coins - issues of independent and semi-independent states belonging to the same era as the coins of the Greek Empire. In addition to cataloging and valuing more than 6,000 coins, full information is available on all aspects of subject matter, types and inscriptions, dates and eras, denominations and denomination marks, as well as a complete alphabetical list of all mints (with ethnic populations) involved in the production of Greek imperial coins. A valuable reference tool of the minting of Greek coins of the Roman Empire.
