European sculptor of the 17th century., Mary with child

67 cm

Maria sits on a rock and holds the child, who is sitting on the left thigh of the leg in front, with her hand by the knee. The right leg is set back. The crossed ribbons over the chest come from the priest's costume and are the badge of the priesthood. In the case of Mary they indicate that Mary also symbolizes the church. The cloak wrapped around Mary's waist and legs and then passed over her back where it covered her head. The coat falls down between the legs in wide, deep folds. The lively moving baby Jesus stretches his left arm forward and has his right arm raised, as if he were reacting to the viewer and wanted to communicate with him. The toddler looks at the viewer in a friendly manner with a charming expression. Wood, colored, there is an older version underneath the current version, as can be seen from the missing part on the child's forehead. Height 67 cm
