Unknown master (16th century)
Instruction of Mary by her mother Anna, polychrome painted wood, approx. 72 x 25 x 23 cm, partially rubbed with chipping and cracks. The late Gothic sculpture shows an iconographically rather rare episode from the life of the Virgin Mary: Anne is holding her infant daughter in her arms and has raised her left index finger instructively, while the later Mother of God has raised her hands devoutly in prayer. The garment and drapery of the round statuette, which is hollowed out on the back, can be stylistically attributed to the Franconian school.
