Józef Jaroszyński (1835–1900) studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. After completing his studies, he settled permanently in Delatyn on the Prut River. Starting in 1880, he traveled annually to Munich, where he had his own studio and where he lived during the final years of his life. He returned to his homeland during the summer months, producing numerous sketches and studies from his travels, including in Pokuttya. In 1866, he took a trip to the Tatra Mountains. In his early period, he painted numerous studies of horses; later, he also painted landscapes, hunting scenes, and genre scenes depicting life in Ukrainian, Hutsul, and Podhale villages. He also created compositions based on literary and historical motifs. He worked in lithography. He exhibited in Kraków, Lviv, and Warsaw, as well as in Vienna and Munich. From 1893 onward, he was a regular member of the Munich Kunstverein.
