Vladyslav Shereshevsky (February 25, 1964, Kyiv) is a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Republican Art School and graduated from the Kyiv State Art Institute in 1991. He has been a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1992 and in 1995 he was awared a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of Germany. According to analysts of the Ukrainian art market, Shereshevsky is one of the ten most successful Ukrainian artists in the world. He is sometimes referred to as the "enfant terrible" of the Ukrainian modern art world, comparing his classical style with the paintings of Fyodor Krychevsky. The art historian, critic and artist Dmytro Korsun once defined Shereshevsky’s style as "... never moving towards a muddy absurdity and hopelessness. He is rather frivolous and mocking, but not angry and gloomy. For him, man is not a spot of nature, but a home space, a modest selfless defender of a tiny family hearth. ” Shereshevsky himself notes the multi-layered perception of his works: It begins with humor, a smile, then the viewer sees paraphrases from classical painting, such as Raphael, the motives of the “great” Vermeer or Serov. “But the main thing is in the synthesis of 'this and that' in the paintings. Because of this combination, the work can also seem sad. But this is already clear for those who completely understand.” says the artist. Shereshevsky looks at the fantastic, illogical, absurd but attractive world with a smile. He ironizes history and politics, advertising and television, religion and nationalism, using incompatible narratives and dogmas.
„Vladyslav Shereshevsky (25 lutego 1964, Kijów) jest ukraińskim malarzem i grafikiem. Studiował w Republikańskiej Szkole Artystycznej. Ukończył Kijowski Państwowy Instytut Sztuki (1991). Członek Związku Artystów Ukrainy od 1992 roku. W 1995 roku został stypendystą Ministerstwa Kultury Niemiec. Według analityków ukraińskiego rynku sztuki Vladyslav Shereshevsky jest jednym z dziesięciu najbardziej utytułowanych artystów ukraińskich. Dmytro Korsun, krytyk sztuki, historyk, malarz, konserwator, kurator projektów artystycznych, tak zdefiniował styl Szereszewskiego: „Artysta Vladyslav Shereshevsky nigdy nie zmierza w kierunku zabłoconego absurdu i beznadziejności. Jest raczej niepoważny i szyderczy, ale nie zły i ponury. Dla niego człowiek nie jest miejscem natury, ale domową przestrzenią, skromnym, bezinteresownym obrońcą maleńkiego rodzinnego ogniska. ” Sam Shereshevsky zauważa wielowarstwową percepcję swoich dzieł: najpierw humor, uśmiech, potem widz widzi parafrazy z klasycznego malarstwa, takie jak Rafael, motywy „wielkiego” Vermeera, motywy Sierowa. „Ale najważniejsze jest synteza tego i tamtego w obrazach.
