A beautifully preserved piece.
Slight discoloration of the background.
Denomination introduced by the reform of January 11, 1924; coins of this design were minted starting in 1934 (put into circulation on the Marshal’s 67th birthday). Pursuant to the decree of the President of the Republic of Poland dated August 27, 1932, these coins could be used to pay debts up to a maximum of 1,000 zlotys. The coin remained in circulation until November 1939, when it was withdrawn pursuant to a decree of the General Government.
The coin was minted in Warsaw between 1934 and 1939. The lowest mintage was in 1934 (200,000 pieces), and the highest was in 1936 (2,130,000 pieces). The mintage for 1939 is unknown, but the coin appears on the market quite often in very good condition.
Obverse: the national eagle from the 1927 design against a background of rays, with the inscription along the rim:
RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA 10 zlotych 10, with the year beneath the eagle’s tail.
Reverse: a bust of Marshal Piłsudski facing left, with the Kościesze coat of arms—the mark of the State Mint in Warsaw—in front of him. On the shoulder, the designer’s mark:
St Ostrowski.
Edge: serrated
The coin is struck in .750 silver, with a diameter of 34 mm and a standard weight of 22 g.
