"A certain father had two sons, the older of the two was wise and prudent and always knew how to handle everything. The younger one, on the other hand, was stupid, he could not learn anything or comprehend anything, and people said:
- Oh, he will still be a nuisance to his father! If there was something to do at home, the older one always had to take care of it: but if the father wanted to send him somewhere late in the evening or even at night, and the road led through a cemetery or some other frightening place, the boy answered:
- Ah, no, father, I won't go that way, because I'm scared! And he was really afraid.
When sometimes in the evenings stories were told by the chimney, from which a shiver ran through the listeners, then someone would say:
- Oh dear, it takes a person's fear! The younger of the brothers then sat in a corner, listened to everything and couldn't grasp what the words meant, not even a little.
- People keep saying, "Fear takes! Fear takes!" And I am never taken by fear. It must be some play again that I can't do."
