- Jozef Brandt - pupils and friends, J. Malczewski District Museum in Radom, December 1998 - July 1999
He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow from 1874 to 1875 and at the Vienna Academy, where he received a gold medal. He stayed in Vienna until 1881, then settled in Munich, with which he would be associated for the rest of his life. He took part in exhibitions organized by the Society of Friends of Fine Arts (TPSP) in Krakow, Warsaw and Lviv, as well as international exhibitions (Vienna, Munich, Berlin, London). Emperor Franz Joseph purchased two of his works for his own collection. Member of the Munich Kunstverein. Since 1933 banned from exhibiting works in Germany.
The artist specialized in landscape subjects. Although he spent most of his life in Munich, his favorite subjects were the villages near Krakow and the Vistula River landscape. Autumn Landscape perfectly captures the moodiness of the artist's works and the characteristic nostalgia of his native surroundings. Also characteristic is the extraordinary meticulousness of the depiction and his penchant for rendering details of vegetation and landscape.
