Bronze, weight 68.90 g, diameter 50 mm. Made by M. Penin. The edge bears the CUIVRE mark. Minor edge damage. Subtle scratches and background imperfections. The medal is inspired by the dupondius of Octavian Augustus.
The obverse features a composition inspired by the famous portraits of Octavian Augustus and Marcus Agrippa. The portraits are very expressive and vivid. The reverse depicts the legendary motif of a date palm with a crocodile tied to it. This is a symbol of Rome's victory over Egypt and a sign that, thanks to the Roman dupondius, is inextricably linked to the French city of Nîmes. This motif became the city's symbol, still present in its coat of arms today, recalling its Roman roots.
