Lithuania Medal (2001) for the Christian World. Averse: Baby Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Inscription in Latin. Translation: 'Blessed Virgin Mary - Mother of the Son of God - our intercessor.' Averse explanation: Mary is depicted happy; rejoicing in her motherhood; but with a shadow of sadness on her face because she knows what awaits her son in the future. The baby Jesus is holding the globe and blessing humanity with his right hand. Reverse: An inscription in Latin. Translation: 'May all glory be to God the Father; all glory to you the eternal Son; whom we worship with the Holy Spirit forever and ever' (from the hymn of St. Ambrose). Reverse Explanation: The reverse depicts the moment when only Mary with the apostle John remains at the cross. Christ speaks the last words addressing Mary: 'Woman; here is your son!' Then saith he to the disciple; Behold thy mother! (Jn 1926-27). 'Done!' (Jn 19.30). Reverse composition: The figure of Christ with a cross and the angels in the center of the medal symbolize space. The angels holding a circle with the figures of Mary and the apostle John depicted in it symbolize the Earth and at the same time emphasize the importance of these two figures. The God the Father; the Son of God; and God the Holy Spirit mentioned on the reverse define the essence of Christianity. Lithuanian Mint. 2001. Brass. Weight approx: 59.94 g. Diameter: 51 mm. With Pack
