Arne Emil Jacobsenn (1902 - 1971) was a Danish architect and furniture designer. His path to design led through his interest in Gesamtkunst. One of his first pieces of furniture was the Paris armchair from 1929, which was part of the design of his famous "House of the Future." Most of his furniture designs were the result of his collaboration with furniture maker Fritz Hansen.

His main source of inspiration was the designs of Charles and Ray Eames made of bent plywood. He was in no small part influenced by Italian design historian Ernest Rogers and his motto "from the spoon to the city," which meant that every design element was equally important in design.

In 1951 Jacobsen created the Ant chair (for the Novo pharmaceutical factory) and in 1955 the Seven Series. Both models were perfectly suited to modern needs, being lightweight, compact and stackable pieces of furniture.

Other designs were made for Stelton, the company founded by his adoptive son Peter Holmbel. These include the classic Cylinda Line stainless steel cocktail set and tableware.

Other interior designs include a line of faucets and accessories for the bathroom and kitchen, created after he won the National Bank of Denmark's design competition in 1961. This classic design is still produced by the Danish company Vola.

Arne Jacobsen is known for his sense of proportion. Indeed, he himself saw it as one of the main features of his work.He used to say: "Proportion is exactly what makes up the beautiful ancient Egyptian temples [...] and if you look at some of the most admired buildings of the Renaissance and Baroque, you will notice that they all had good proportions. Proportion is the basis" .
