Jean-Jacques Henner (1829-1905) was a prominent French painter, born March 5, 1829 in Bernwiller, Alsace. He died on July 23, 1905 in Paris. He is particularly known for his masterful use of light and shadow and for his unique ability to paint skin, which gave his figures an almost ethereal quality.
