Soter August Jaxa-Malachowski began his education at the Drawing School in Odesa, then in 1892-94 he studied at the Cracow School of Fine Arts under F. Cynk, I. Jablonski and W. Luszczkiewicz, and from 1894 in Munich at the school of S. Grocholski. After returning to Poland around 1902, he settled in Cracow and remained there for the rest of his life, with the exception of a two-year stay in Zakopane and a trip to Italy in 1905, 1925 and 1928. He was a member of the Warsaw Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts, the Cracow Society for the Friends of Fine Arts and the Common Union of Polish Artists. He painted mainly marine paintings, also Italian landscapes, views of Cracow and few portraits, and used oil, tempera, gouache, watercolor and pastel techniques. He exhibited in Krakow, Warsaw, Lviv, Lodz, Poznan, Lublin and Piotrkow. Framed 44x59 cm.
