An analysis of the character of Jozef Pilsudski, showing his charisma, loneliness and steadfastness in the struggle for Poland's independence. The author emphasizes how extreme emotions Pilsudski aroused - from adoration to hatred - and how ungrateful Polish society was toward him. The book criticizes the political environment of the Second Republic, especially the National Democracy and the possessing class which, according to Daszynski, underestimated his merits and threw stabs at him. The author also shows a dramatic picture of the internal politics of the Second Republic, full of divisions and ingratitude towards its creators.
