Jan Ostroróg. Hunting with Hounds. Warsaw, 1902. Published by the Editorial Board of *Łowca Polski*, p. 62, 19 cm, protective paper cover.
A work by Jan Ostroróg (1565–1622), Voivode of Poznań, considered one of the earliest works in Old Polish hunting literature. It teaches “honest” hunting with dogs, without snares or nets. “A passion for such hunting should be, according to Ostrorog, a trait of every upright nobleman, as the best preparation for military service for the homeland.” (PSB). The first edition was published in Kraków in 1618 as a supplement to the work “On Hounds and Hunting with Them.” Numerous outdated stamps and ownership inscriptions; otherwise, in good condition.
