Lolita—an English-language novel by Vladimir Nabokov, written between 1947 and 1953, published in 1955 in Paris. The novel tells the story of a man fascinated by prepubescent girls, whom he refers to as “nymphs,” and his erotic obsession with his twelve-year-old stepdaughter, Dolores Haze (the titular Lolita). Due to its theme of pedophilia, the novel was long considered scandalous and pornographic, and the author faced difficulties in getting it published.
