Camille Magnus, born in Paris in 1850, is considered one of the outstanding representatives of the late Barbizon School. The artist studied under Diaz Dela Pena. His style bears the unmistakable marks of the Barbizon influence, most notably Diaz. Camille often drew on the formal solutions developed by his master. He built up the composition of forest landscapes in a similar way, strongly accenting with light the central part of the pictorial field, then closing it with a curtain of shaded forest flora. He first exhibited his works at the Paris Salon in 1875.
