Biography
Studied painting in the studios of Prof. Stanislaw Teisseyre and Krystyna Lada-Studnicka, and printmaking under Prof. Zygmunt Karolak. In 1955-1962 he was associated with the ceramic group "Kadyny", led by Hanna Zulawska. Since 1965 he lived in a house at the Gdańsk Fish Market, where a commemorative plaque dedicated to the artist is now embedded; by his long-time friend, Gdańsk sculptor Bronisław Tusk. Ryszard Stryjec practiced painting, sculpture and ceramics, and above all, graphic art. He created several thousand works. A characteristic feature of his work was the weaving of fantastic, fairy tale and biblical characters into Danzig motifs. The artist's works have been presented at numerous collective and individual exhibitions at home and abroad, including France, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland, and are in many private collections in the Tri-City.
