Biography
He studied at the Warsaw University of Technology and the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 1965, he created the first paintings in the series “Attempts at a Visual Presentation of Statistical Distributions,” in which he used black and white squares as the basic structural units, arranging them randomly. In 1966, he received an award at the Symposium of Artists and Scientists in Puławy. From 1967 to 1977, he designed stage sets, among other places, at the Polish Theater in Warsaw. In 1976, he began his work with the “Game Salons,” into which he introduced random participants. After 1980, he created spatial forms—so-called “geometry in a state of tension.” His major spatial projects include: “Goriucken” (1976), a project for Hamburg from 1980, and his participation in “Kunststrasse Rhon” in 1986. He had approximately 50 solo exhibitions; his major group exhibitions include: the São Paulo Biennial (1969), and the Constructivist Biennial in Nuremberg (1969 and 1971).
