Copperplate colored with watercolor in period, paper, 68 x 93 cm, good condition, bound in passepartout. Published by J. Lattre.
Large format, striking map, because of the large format composed of four publisher's glued parts. It includes areas from the Netherlands belonging to the Empire to Vilnius, Grodno, Brest, Lviv. From the Polish territories there are all cities, towns and urban settlements, and sometimes large villages - in total about 500 localities. The author of the map is a famous Italian cartographer, who lived in Poland at the time of King St. Augustus and created a 24-section atlas of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, published in 1774. The cartographer also collected data for the map of Germania, which included on it the territory of present-day Poland. Usually maps of a country gave few cities of a neighboring country, but here we have hundreds of Polish towns. There are several versions of this map of smaller format and thus less accurate. This one is the largest. This map has not been on the world's auctions and antique shops' offers for the last 10 years. The only ex currently available for purchase is at Rare Antique Maps in the USA for $840, however, it is a version consisting of 4 sections of this map but with separate publisher's yellow borders. A rarity!
