Antonio Chiarelli, Umbrellas in the Rain, 2017, 40x50 cm
A contemporary expressionist painting executed in acrylic on canvas, measuring 40x50 cm, by the artist Antonio Chiarelli. The composition depicts a group of figures walking in the rain, sheltered by brightly colored umbrellas in shades of green, orange, red, and purple. The technique is characterized by a textured impasto applied with bold, textured vertical brushstrokes that evoke falling rain and the glints of light on the wet pavement. The artist plays on the contrast between the cool tones of the background—dominated by blues, grays, and blacks—and the bright splashes of color from the umbrellas. The work is signed in the lower left corner with the painted inscription “A CHIARELLI,” followed by the year “17.” The painting is presented in an elaborate multi-layered frame, consisting of a gilded outer profile with relief decorations, a fabric insert with floral motifs, and a white inner mat.
