Russian River Valley, Sonoma
Comments
DuMOL winery was established in 1996 in Russian River Valley. Since then it has maintained the same profile - no publicity, focused on quality, on the expression of single vineyards, mainly based on chardonnay and pinot noir. The producer is highly regarded, the wines sought after, and the fact that the vast majority of sales are made directly to end customers makes it hard to get a bottle, not to mention a case.
The winemaker (and partner in the project) is Andy Smith. From his hand come precise, cool wines in which California character is balanced with mineral and herbal notes. These wines are wildly acclaimed by critics. Ratings in the upper 96-100 range are standard.
Pinot Noir Ryan 2021 The fruit comes from a vineyard quite close to the Pacific Ocean, and therefore very cool, where ripening is longer and its effects most interesting. The wine's body is medium-bodied, but filled to the brim. Concentrated, slightly tannic, with a long finish provided by lively acidity. Forest fruits, thyme, mint, truffles.
