Tadeusz Seweryn (1894 Żółkiew -1975 Kraków), ethnographer, painter, graphic artist, museologist and folk art researcher.
He was one of six children of Wojciech and Antonina (née Kwiecińska). After graduating from elementary school in 1906, he attended middle school in Nowy Sącz and Cracow where he matriculated in 1913. He then studied simultaneously art history, literature and law, at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University, and painting at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts, under such masters as Pankiewicz, Mehoffer and Weiss. When World War I broke out, T. Seweryn joined the Legions, however, his frail health caused him to be dismissed from service after a few days and work in the Legion Archives. After the end of the Polish-Bolshevik war, he was briefly associated with Tomaszow Mazowiecki, where, in 1927, he established a museum of regional character. Until 1929, he was associated with the teachers' seminary in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, conducted field research, and founded the Countryside Circle. In 1929 he left Tomaszow and permanently moved to Cracow where, among other things, he took up a job at the Ethnographic Museum. In addition to his work as an ethnographer, Tadeusz Seweryn, created oil paintings, watercolors and woodcuts.
