Studied at the Free Academy of Fine Arts and the State Industrial School in Lviv, then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Jozef Mehoffer and in Paris under Jozef Pankiewicz. In 1929-1935 he was and member and president of the avant-garde group "artes" in Lviv. His synthetic paintings from this period showed influences of Surrealism, Cubism and other avant-garde directions. After the occupation of the eastern Polish territories by the Soviet army, he remained in Lviv. He taught at the Art and Industrial School there. From 1946 he was a professor at the Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts in Lviv and a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
