Janina Muniak was born in 1935 in Warsaw. She graduated with a degree in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She first exhibited her work in a group show at Zachęta in 1961. That same year, the artist began working as a graphic designer and illustrator, creating, among other things, illustrations for children’s books. After moving to Paris in 1963, she continued her work in this field, collaborating with various graphic design agencies and magazines (for many years she worked with Art Presse, and designed packaging, textiles, and graphic elements for companies such as SNCF). She did not return to creating her own art until the early 1990s. Beginning in 1994, when she received a medal in the pastel category at the Autumn Salon of Fine Arts at the Chapelle Saint-Jean, the artist has exhibited her works regularly in both group and solo exhibitions.
