I come from the small Georgian village of Kwemo Chibati. My grandfather, Markiane Pataraia, was the

the oldest shepherd in all of Georgia. He grazed cows and sheep on mountain slopes far away

from the Black Sea coast, where the ancient Colchis once lay. The father, with his

exquisitely maintained truck transported tea to town. Mother picked the tea leaves

tea, took care of the house and garden. Brother, has his own family. No one at home was interested in

art - except for his grandfather, who carved beautiful spoons from cherry wood.

Once in kindergarten, the teachers noticed that my circles were unusually symmetrical,

I quickly realized that I could exchange circles for kisses with the girls. So deftly

I redrew animals from books that relatives began to call me "Leonardo"

because of this, they constantly playfully patted me on the head, which I sincerely hated. This

incident caused a resolution to be born deep in my heart: "I vow

myself to be a better painter than the irrepressible Leonardo" - about whom I still knew nothing at the time

I knew.

My first serious work, done at the age of thirteen, was a painting of my mother's

of my mother's metal pot. The art club at the local community center, was

led by Mr. Tamazi Chkhaidze - a sculptor. It was he who mobilized my parents

to send me to art school. Later in Tbilisi, I graduated from an art school

named after Jakob Nikoladze, and in parallel I got into the Academy of Fine Arts at the faculty of

Graphic Arts, also in Tbilisi. After my first year of study, in 1991, completely by

by accident, I went to Poland with a group of blue-collar workers. I was supposed to be there for two months,

and I stayed, until today. Now I live in Warsaw , have a wife and children .

About the artist : was born in Georgia in 1971; has lived and worked in Poland for 24 years. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in

Tbilisi , he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poznan and Krakow. In his achievements he has

dozens of exhibitions including individual and collective ones and his works are in the homes of

collectors around the world. David Pataraia is an artist endowed with exceptional sensitivity and

imagination. His work is characterized by extraordinary diversity. In addition to colorful works dedicated

children, you will also find: nudes, abstractions, paintings with the image of a bull and a rooster as well as

works that relate in subject matter to the traditions and culture in which he grew up. David Pataraia is also an outstanding

portraitist. Among the wealth of subjects covered by him, we can easily find a common

denominator. All works are characterized by a wealth of color, saturated, intense colors thanks to the

which the artist infects us with his optimism. Looking at them, we smile in spite of ourselves.

1In the reality created by David, the viewer and the work enter into a very close, personal

contact. It's difficult to keep our distance when the artist himself invites us to join in the fun and experience.

The artist uses not only different techniques, but also materials. Using wood, metal or plastic

he creates 3D paintings. This combination of different textures and raw materials allows us to "touch" the reality

created by the artist.

Biography

Born on 6.05.1971 in Lanchchuti Kwemo Chibati, Georgia. He graduated from the secondary school of arts

Visual Arts named after Jakob Nikoladze in Tbilisi. In Georgia, he studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts under the

under the direction of Prof. David Uruhadze, Gogi Cereteli and Tamazi Chhaidze. He continued his studies in Poland

at the faculties of graphic design (Warsaw) and painting (Poznan, Krakow).

"The One Who Lives Between the Dot and the Blur".

In a certain world that existed between a palette and a dream, someone was born who did not have a single character. Not because he was lost - but because he was too aware of what he could be. People in this world wore labels like passports. Some were "Sculptor," others "Philosopher," and still others "Athlete," "Mother," "IT Worker." But He... did not want to be one. They told him:

- Take your pick. Paint the same thing. Write in one style. Get organized, because the world doesn't like fuzziness.

And he replied:

- But after all, out of focus is where you can breathe.

He was like a light that does not want to fall on one object, but prefers to float between, tickling the edges. He was like an embryo of emotion that has not yet decided whether it will be anger or ecstasy. He was like a painting that didn't fit in the frame, and therefore became a corridor. So he began to create. Not art - but states of being. Not for recognition, but for those who don't know who they are either. Into his world came those who felt they were too much, too broad, too diverse.

They didn't fit into the resume, they didn't fit into the system, they had too many colors in them that fought for space on the canvas.

Dato - for that was his name - was just telling them: - You can be everything, but you don't have to be everything at once. You can be nobody, but not always, either. And the most beautiful things happen when no one is looking, and you create anyway. In time, he didn't need to sign paintings. People knew it was Him - by how they felt. Not by the style, not by the color, but by the fact that something inside them began to breathe where it had previously been compressed. And then they understood:

He doesn't create for survival. He creates to remind us that survival is not enough.
