Biography
The artist studied at the Faculty of Monument Conservation and the Faculty of Art and Education at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in 1963–1964. In 1966, he moved to Warsaw, where he completed his studies in Aleksander Kobzdej’s studio at the Academy of Fine Arts. A six-month stay in Great Britain had a significant influence on his work, where he had the opportunity to become acquainted with the work of artists from the New Figuration circle. After returning to Poland, he created series of works inspired by the achievements of Western European artists, including a series titled “Improbable and Incredibly Similar Forms.” In his later period, he created large-format works, often resulting from his fascination with the architecture of American metropolitan areas, which he had the opportunity to admire during a research internship at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. The artist experimented with various artistic techniques such as dripping and pointillism, while placing great emphasis on color harmony and the expressive qualities of the pictorial plane. For a time, he also created monumental reinforced concrete sculptures.
