Biography
Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, where she received her diploma from the Faculty of Painting in 2003. In 2002, she studied under the Erasmus program at UIAH University in Helsinki. Before that, in 1998, she graduated from the School of Design and Advertising in Lodz, and in 2014 she completed Postgraduate Studies in Art Education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow.
In 2018, at her alma mater, she defended her doctoral dissertation entitled "The Concept of Memory and Time in Allegorical Imagery." The subject of the doctoral dissertation was the treatment of allegory as a tool for analyzing culture and history. She is the author of several solo exhibitions and participant in numerous group exhibitions at home and abroad. She does painting, and also works with photography and found footage. She designs and conducts creative workshops. Apananska is mainly inspired by archival materials, film and literature. In her work she uses quotations and borrowings, engaging in a dialogue with art history and theory. The leitmotif of her works is the widely understood problem of memory. She is a two-time grantee of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland (in 2015, 2020).
