Large gilded bronze sculpture, 62 cm, SIGNED

This lost-wax cast bronze sculpture depicts a male figure in a dynamic, contorted pose, characterized by elongated proportions and extreme muscular tension. The surface features a rich, unpolished texture typical of expressive modeling in wax or clay prior to casting, with a gilded finish applied to the entire body. The figure rests on the toes of his right foot while his torso twists sharply to the side, with his arms spread wide in a theatrical gesture. On the back of the lower back, the work bears a hand-engraved signature reading “manzo” in lowercase letters (photo 2). The term “manzo” is legible and consistent with the signature of the Italian artist Giacomo Manzù, although the final letter lacks the usual pronounced curve of the “u” or is partially worn away. The sculpture has no integrated base or separate pedestal.
