BIO ARTIST:
Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, Faculty of Painting and Sculpture. He earned his degree in Prof. Krzysztof Skarbek's painting studio. Finalist of the 11th edition of the Hestia Artistic Travel competition, Gdańsk, 2012. His first major solo exhibition within the 'Akademism' cycle was realised in 2010 at the Geppert's Apartment in Wrocław. In the same year he had an individual show in the "NRD" club in Toruń. He participated several times in the Survival Art Review in Wrocław, as an author of sound installations and performer, among others in S. Tołpa Park and Bunker Strzegom. Then a collective exhibition at BWA Studio in Wroclaw in 2011, followed by a famous performance at the National Museum in Wroclaw, when he suspended one of his works unnoticed, arbitrarily attaching it to the collection of works of art of the Lower Silesian center for a few days. The "Woliery 2" event at the Wrocław Contemporary Museum once again showed how Sobiepan easily arranges the exhibition space as a whole, never thinking of the painting in terms of what takes place on its flat surface. A series of "site specific" installations and spatial realizations followed individual shows at the "MDS" Gallery in 2012 and the R46 Gallery in Wrocław in 2014. On the occasion of the latter event, the first paintings were created in the form of designed objects with lids and handles, reminiscent of collectible objects, which one would think came out of the hands of a designer rather than a painter. It was the photo-report from this project that encouraged curator R. Kuśmirowski to invite Sobiepan to participate in the collective exhibition "PALINDROM" at the State Art Gallery in Sopot in 2015. The period of the next few years was intensive work on specific skills and materials, time spent learning varnishing and wood and plastic processing techniques. His willingness to rely solely on his own expertise, without the need to outsource certain work "outside", eventually placed him in the role of artist, designer and skilled craftsman. One of the most recent events is the purchase for the state collection and the collective exhibition "Acquisitions 2" at the Municipal Gallery BWA in Bydgoszcz and the participation in the exhibition of works and objects of paraphotographic art entitled "Fotomorgana" at the PGS Sopot, curated by R.Kuśmirowski.
ARTIST ABOUT HIMSELF:
My paintings usually form cycles. I am constantly in the process of searching for the shape and painterliness of my objects. The formless works from the period of my studies, meticulously cut out in leather with almost surgical precision, were the starting point for the objects we deal with now. I tried to conquer this quality of my painting in the following years, attributing it the main significance. Initially, the jewelry scale of the work, the rigor of the precision of the patterns made, the doggedness to continue this quality, and the lack of desire to work on "themes", focused me on a constant attempt to create a beautiful object. Where the entire form of the object is designed, including the handle and not rarely even the lid. You get exclusive "premium" products after years of working on the technique. Terrestrial, extraterrestrial or microbiological landscapes, fascinating by the multitude and precision of details. Crystals as an elegant combination of forms. Structures associated with glamour and luxury product. "Hyper-surfaces" is the latest series of works. Short series of beautiful objects. Author's jewelry. Painterly "haute couture".
