Sigismund I the Old, Grosz 1530, Toruń – interesting fact
Bust of Sigismund I the Old wearing a crown and armor (Romanesque type 1D). The shoulder guard consists of two parts. The collar of the armor consists of four elements. There are no rivets on the shoulder guard or the collar.
A variant of the Royal Prussian Eagle with a thick tail, holding a sword in its right hand (Romanik type 2C).
A variant with an inscription featuring the king’s title ending in ... PRVS and GROS ... PRVS in the reverse border. A variant featuring large rosettes separating the border inscriptions on the obverse and reverse, with small rosettes used as punctuation between the obverse and reverse.
Interesting fact – in the rim inscription on the reverse, in the word GROS … the letter G was struck twice.
Condition: 3+
Undercut, but a nicely preserved coin. Good luster and plenty of mint mirror finish. An interesting find.An attractive piece for specialized collections.
