Savoy - Charles Emmanuel IV (1796-1802) Half Shield 1800 - Nomisma 483 AG (g 17.54) RRRR Modest minting scratches but excellent specimen of this extremely rare vintage. As is well known, the issuance of the half shield was made during the subalpine republic using the coinage prepared by Lavy during the Austrian occupation of Turin in 1799-1800 and present in the mint, albeit with the effigy of the sovereign Charles Emmanuel IV. This is a coin of great rarity; Elio Biaggi in "Eight Centuries of History of Savoy Coins" has to resort to a foreign collection in order to illustrate a specimen. To date the best specimen we have found turns out to be the one from the 2014 Nomisma 50 auction, lot 350, which in "qSPL" conservation realized € 6,600 + fees.
