Provincial issue of the pentassarion denomination struck at Marcianopolis in Moesia Inferior under the authority of Furius Pontianus (legatus consularis), forming part of a short but well-documented series produced during the joint reign of Macrinus and Diadumenian. These emissions belong to a clearly defined phase of intensified dynastic propaganda aimed at consolidating the newly established regime.
The obverse features confronted busts of both rulers (vis-à-vis), with the legend AV K OΠEΛ CEVΗ MAKPEINOC K M OΠEΛ ANTΩNEINOC. This compositional type is characteristic of provincial coinage and serves as a direct visual statement of co-rule and dynastic continuity.
The reverse depicts Homonoia standing left, holding a patera and a cornucopia, with the legend YΠ ΠONTIANOY MAPKIANOΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ and the letter E in the field, denoting the pentassarion denomination. Homonoia, as the personification of civic concord and unity, belongs to the standard iconographic repertoire of municipal coinage, particularly in contexts where political stability needed to be emphasized.
