Buddha Bhumisparśa / Maravidaya, Burma
A depiction of the Buddha in one of the classical poses, known as Bhumisparśa (literally "gesture of touching the earth"), showing the Buddha sitting on the ground with his right palm facing downwards, touching the earth. This gesture, known as Bhumisparśa, symbolizes the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called the Earth to witness his spiritual strength, overcoming the temptations of the demon Mary (hence another name "Maravidaya" - victory over Mary). This position expresses the triumph of truth, perseverance and inner balance.
