A work that is an introduction to a larger study on the history of military health care. The author, a lecturer at the Officers' Sanitary School, has prepared a compendium designed to facilitate understanding of the history of military medicine in general terms. The origins of health services in armies are shown in the context of two major factors: the development of the art of medicine and the organization of armies, already operating in large, organized masses in ancient times. Before discussing individual nations, the author provides an overview of their military system and the state of medicine, which formed the basis for the formation and development of the sanitary service.
