An account of observations of the Great Comet in 1858, made at the Pulkovo Observatory (the main astronomical observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences located 19 km south of St. Petersburg). It is divided into two parts: the first, by Otto Struve, describes observations made with a refractor, while the second, by Friedrich August Winnecke, presents observations using a heliometer and research into the nature of the comet. The Great Comet of 1858 was Donati 's Comet (C/1858 L1), which was the brightest comet of the 19th century, next to the Great Comet of 1811. It was named after Italian astronomer Giovanni Battista Donati, who first observed it on June 2, 1858. Content in German.
