1st edition. The first mountaineering manual in Polish literature. A work by Zygmunt Klemensiewicz (1886–1963), a mountaineer and activist who rendered great service to the development of Polish mountaineering and skiing; vice president of the Polish Mountaineering Association (PZN) during the interwar period; and a prisoner in Soviet labor camps during World War II. “An outstanding work, representing the highest level of mountaineering knowledge of its time. In addition to purely mountaineering matters (terrain, technique, equipment, ideology, etc.), it takes a broader view of the history of exploring the Tatra Mountains, literature, culture, and tourist ethics, the protection of the Tatra natural environment, and mountain photography” (The Great Encyclopedia of the Tatra Mountains). Decorative cover signed with the monogram J.R. (Józef Rosenbusch; d. 1919—a Lviv-based painter, composer, and engineer). Outdated copyright marks. Minor scuffing and soiling on the cover; some discoloration of the paper in places; otherwise in good condition.
