The story of how a peacock fell into a pond

A thing about a narcissistic peacock who worshiped his own appearance and was greedy for the admiration of other creatures. Until he fell into a pond... It was on a Friday that a certain peacock emerged from the lush grasses. He painted his feathers in gold, purple twilight dropped him in flight, green he drew in, took on silver, black was lent to him by a zebra. This is the poet of the young generation Agnieszka Wolny-Hamkało, on the basis of a text by Stanisław Szydłowski `The Adventure of a Peacock` to illustrations by Józef Wilkoń (Biuro Wydawnicze ,,Ruch, Warsaw 1966) created a new, contemporary version of the story of a peacock that fell into a pond. The beautiful peacock was so enthralled by its reflection in the water that it fell into the pond. The vain bird was so enchanted with himself that even going to the bottom, he couldn't get out of admiration for himself. A sparkling witty poem by Agnieszka Wolny-Hamkało, complemented by a brilliant melange of colorful spots by Józef Wilkoń. The new edition will be richer with additional illustrations! The artist tells about the creation of the peacock image this way: More than fifty years ago I was on a walk with my little son in Lazienki Park. Suddenly, I stood as if I was struck by seeing two peacocks reflecting in the Baths pond. Enthralled by their beauty, I ran to the house on Hoża Street, locked myself in the studio, took a pail of water, brushes, inks, watercolors and began to go crazy with the matter.
