KNUT HAMSUN (1859-1952) - Norwegian writer, Nobel Prize in Literature for 1920. A precursor of modernist tendencies in the psychological and existential novel, which were fully formed in the second half of the 20th century. Hamsun's Nazi sympathies were also known, for which he was tried after the war.

The main concern, therefore, is the selection of translations that could worthily reflect in the Polish word the masterpieces of the newer and latest foreign literature [...] For the first time in Poland, the literature of translation has been included in this publication in a system, giving works of high artistic value from all foreign writings. Each of the Nobel laureates will be represented here with a number of their works, so that in time the entire bibioteka will include the flower of the cultural achievements of all nations. The foundation's board of trustees takes into account not only the aesthetic side of the works, but also their social and moral value, which is why the publishing house will bring together all the works, and will also have a certain ideological underpinning."
