Biography
He studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In 1981, he received his diploma from Prof. M. Wejman’s Copperplate Engraving Studio; he studied painting in Prof. J. Świderski’s studio. From 1981 to 1989, he worked as an assistant at his alma mater. He works in painting, printmaking, and drawing. He has received awards and honors, including at the Mulhouse Print Biennial (1984), the International Miniature Art Exhibition in Toronto (1986), Graphica Atlantica in Reykjavik (1987), the Vaasa Print Biennial (1987), the Grand Prix at the Seoul Print Biennial (1988), and the I. Trybowski Award at the International Print Triennial in Kraków (1994). In 2001, he was awarded the W. Wojtkiewicz Prize by the Kraków chapter of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers (ZPAP) for the most interesting solo exhibition presented in Kraków. As one of the few Kraków artists, he has been helping to shape the neo-expressionist movement in Poland since the 1980s. He paints in a characteristically simplified style, sharply defining colors and shapes, often exaggerating them to the point of caricaturing figures and situations.
