Wegner (after Max Theodor Streckenbach), Bouquet of Poppies and Hydrangeas in a Vase, 20th century
Oil on canvas, 50 x 70 cm, 70 x 85 cm
Signed in the lower left corner in red paint "Wegner" and an illegible date.
Condition: Very good (the painting is in excellent condition; the support has been restored; on the reverse, along the center of the bottom edge, there is visible stitching of the material—not visible from the front. At the top of the frame, there is a gap in the frame that is not visible from the front).
The painting, executed in an expressive style using impasto, draws on the style of Max Theodor Streckenbach (1865–1936), a German painter known primarily for his still lifes, especially floral compositions. There is a pencil inscription on the reverse of the stretcher.
